Swannanoa Travel Article-1875

During the post-war years of th 1870's and 1880's Americans became interested in travel and the mountains of Western North Carolina became a favored destination. Travel writers wrote glowing accounts of the fresh air and scenic beauty to be found in the mountains of North Carolina which enticed many residents from other parts of the country to head to the mountains.

Christian Reid penned a serial article in Appleton's Journal in 1875 title "Land of the Sky" which would later be published in book form. This article is one of the first articles in a nationally read magazine to mention Swannanoa.
